Bird hide designs can vary from temporary tent structures to a permanent building. We loved the challenge of using a converted container and steel to create one. Here are the details of the project.
What is a bird hide?
A bird hide is a shelter, often camouflaged, that is used to observe wildlife, especially birds, at close quarters. A typical bird hide can look a bit like a garden shed. They often have incorporated small openings, shutters, or windows to enable observation.
What are the benefits of using a shipping container for your bird hide design?
Using a shipping container to build a bird hide gives you complete flexibility from design to construction. They can be decorated to blend in with nature and completely customised with features such as windows and doors. They can be transported to wherever you need it and moved in the future too. Shipping containers are designed to face the elements at sea, so really are a perfect solution to last as an outdoor structure.
These photos show the container shell at the start of the project.
The bird hide design was fully customised to be fit for purpose.
The box section was added to allow full accessibility for wheelchair users.
Shelves and seating were added for comfort.
The building was painted green to camouflage with the environment, so users can get a closer look at the birds.
The Bird Hide was transported by lorry to the location and moved into place by two diggers.
Finally the bird hide was ready to use. Snacks at the ready!
Enduring the elements
The new bird hide is loved by its users and is still standing strong. Fun fact: if the bird hide was not a modified container and steel build, it would not have survived being flooded.
